Mariet Smal

Physiotherapist


Mariet’s extensive years of experience as a physiotherapist allowed her to hone her skills in the assessment and treatment of patients presenting with chronic pain conditions, back pain, neck and musculoskeletal injuries. In view of her interest in chronic pain she is also in the process of completing her diploma in pain management at the University of Cape Town. The “patient’s perspective” concerning their condition remains a critical factor which she considers in order to implement a holistic treatment plan with the aim to yield the best possible functional outcome.

When she is not at work, she embraces the outdoors with early morning jogging sessions in the beautiful Stellenbosch mountains or alternatively she retreats to the beach for a refreshing hike. Apart from her social interest in theatre and enjoying music on the lawns of Stellenbosch, she also represented South Africa in the World Masters squash tournament.

Susan Kleynhans

Physiotherapist

Susan has many years of experience as Physiotherapist treating musculoskeletal injuries and providing Post operative care , with a special interest in upper limb rehabilitation. When she is not at work , she loves spending time in her garden and hiking in the surrounding mountains.

Liezet Basson

Occupational Therapist

With more than 15 years of experience as Occupational Therapist Liezet specializes in work rehabilitation, functional capacity evaluations, return to work interventions, hand therapy and COID management. Her general interest in sport transcends from golf to jogging, playing netball, enjoying a good book or simply spending time with her children.

Erika Schwabe

Occupational Therapist

Erika has more than 15 years of experience and maintains a special interest in hand therapy and lymphedema management. Away from work, her time with her family remains a priority on her agenda and enjoys engaging in any outdoor activity whether it be running, hiking, cycling or the like.

Dorita Ver Loren van Themaat

Occupational Therapist

Dorita joined Therapy in Action in 2016, after honing her skills in functional capacity evaluations, ergonomic evaluations and the occupational health industry in the UK, she continued with her interest in this field upon return to South Africa in 2009. Apart from physical conditions, Dorita has a special interest in the assessment and counseling of patients presenting with chronic pain, psychosocial or cognitive difficulties. When Dorita is not at work, she loves to nurture spontaneity and an interest in any outdoors activity with her children and family.

Physiotherapists

Celeste is a senior physiotherapist with a special interest in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, post surgical rehabilitation and occupational health related injuries. She has honed her skills in courses such as clinical Pilates, ergonomic assessments and shoulder rehabilitation. She otherwises love singing, reading and spending time with her family.

Karmine van Tonder

Physiotherapist

Karmine is a qualified physiotherapist who recently joined our Somerset West branch. She specialises in the treatment of shoulder and back injuries, whilst also retaining her interest in neurology. She loves being active and holds the medals for successful completion of both the Liverpool and London Marathons, respectively.

Melissa Loubser

Physiotherapist

Melissa has joined our practice in 2017 retains a special interest in shoulder - , knee - and running injuries and continues to grow her expertise in the complex pain conditions. Melissa is passionate about community work and therefore a highlight in her career was having the opportunity to spend 3 months working with children with disabilities in rural Malawi. When she is not at work, she loves spending time in the mountains or on on interesting trails in the surrounding regions.

Marli Kotze

Marli is a physiotherapist based at our Stellenbosch branch. She has a special interest in work related injuries, ergonomic assessments, treating post operative patients and wound care. Her other hobbies includes horse riding, water sports, trail running, playing tennis or otherwise reading a good book when it's pouring rain in the Western Cape!

Jane is a senior occupational therapist with more than 15 years of experience specialising in hand therapy and work related injuries/illnesses to return to work. Her favourite pastime is reading a good book, spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors and/or being able to do all of the latter together.

Elretha is a senior occupational therapist with more than 15 years of experience, specialising in hand therapy. She loves a good cup of coffee and never says no to an enjoyable hike in the mountains or participating in an interesting craft!

Lize joined our practice in 2017 and sees clients at both our Somerset west and Stellenbosch branch. She has a special
Interest in adult physical rehabilitation and continues to hone her skills in the field of vocational rehabilitation and return to work. She furthermore enjoys needlework, playing tennis, horse riding, discovering and exploring new destinations.

Retha performs the crucial role of helping to process our COID matters or assisting Natasha at our Stellenbosch front desk. Her favourite hobbies (although there are several) is to perform ceramic painting and compiling Tapestries.

Natasha Maxwell

Front desk Stellenbosch

Natasha is the gentle and friendly presence at our Stellenbosch front desk. Apart from her administrative responsibilities at reception she has continued to hone her expertise in medical aid coding. When she is not at work she enjoys outdoor camping, embarking on a trip to Robben island (preferably by speed boat!) and spending time with her boys.

Vicki Swart

Vicki specialises in COID cases and occasionally assists with front desk responsibilities at our Somerset West branch. Away from work, she enjoys activities such as chalk painting techniques, updating her facebook page “Vroue wat omgee” and taking pictures which epitomises the beauty of nature.

Lorinda Matthyse

Practice Manager & Front desk Somerset West

Lorinda has worked in the medical administration field since January 2000 and is the welcoming and helpful presence at our front desk in Somerset west. Since embarking on her career in the health sector she honed a special interest in the individual case management of chronic and severe injuries requiring rehabilitation. In her free time she loves cooking and hosting events.
